Creatures Of Kirandur
The Creatures Of Kirandur
Kirandur is a wild place, when you dig deeper. Here, there will be minor details on various fauna one could find in the wild, and perhaps even tame.
Forest greatwolves
Wolves the size of draft horses, often used as mounts. Dangerous to hunt.
Summit eagles
Eagles taller than a man and with wingspans up to fifty feet. Considered to be the blessed divine birds of Vyaka. They live in the highest reaches of mountains and are rare.
Death crows
Black crows that are thought to be mist-touched. Native and exclusive to the Gardewood.
Kyrstag
It is thought that there are only one of each of these beasts in every forest. They stand nearly twenty feet tall to the highest points of their antlers, and are considered to be avatars of Lekyros.
Runebat
Familiars for most mages, they are also living creatures that make their homes in caves of any size. They glow a light luminescent green and can deliver vicious, but non-lethal, shocks with their magical bites.
Avalanche tortoise
Sixty foot long tortoises that make up small parts of landmasses. They can live anywhere, from hot to cold, as their shells insulate against almost anything. They rarely move, but if they do, they can be devastating and almost impossible to stop if they gain forward momentum.
Waste dogs
Popular mounts for goblins of the wastes. They are sandy in color with low, sleek bodies that allow them to blend in and move quickly.
The Great Wavecleaver
Only one of these exists. A great tentacled creature, a combination between a shark and an octopus, that patrols the Sea of Hiding. It is considered to be the avatar of Vasarion’s rage.
Tuhndvar
A winged horse who’s wings function more for gliding. Tuhndvar are typically the mounts of storm fae and they run on self-made disks of lightning.
Vigumoss
This creature lives in bodies of water, mostly lakes and rivers. In the rare event that they make it out to sea, they'll usually stick to shallower waters and stay close to the shoreline. They aren't very fast or strong, for that matter. But their means of defending or attacking is what they're most known for. What they use are tentacles. The Vigumoss can have anywhere from 6 to 20 of these tentacles, which can range from 30 to 65 feet long. They ensnare anyone or anything they deem a threat. They don't usually attack without reason, and people aren't their main source of food. Still, at least 100 attacks on people are reported each year. But if you are attacked by one, your chances of survival are medium to high.
Stromnen
These humanoids form tribes across the StormShatter Mountains. Though they are few and far between, these giants are fierce warriors. Their main weapons are long spears, made of either bronze or stone, and are usually about 10 feet long. They design them in such a way that they can be used for both throwing and normal attacking. These giants mostly live in the caves scattered across the mountain range. A tribe is usually made up of 30 to 100 giants. Depending on the tribe, if a cave is inhabited, they may leave some kind of sign at the entrance or nearby—usually a skull pierced by one of their spears or something equally ominous. Other tribes will not do this. So, it's important to traverse any cave you come across carefully. It's best to fight these giants in large groups. They are fierce fighters but can also be cautious. If they do not attack directly, they may lie in wait or even surround the group before attacking from all directions.
Minibear
These creatures are exactly what they sound like: grizzly bears in tiny form, usually 1 to 2 feet tall. They usually live alone in trees, well-camouflaged because of their brown fur. To kill something, they will hide in low-hanging branches, well-hidden. Once anything passes under them, they will leap down onto the person’s or animal's head. Their strategy is to latch onto the head with their very sharp claws and burrow as deeply as they can. While doing that, they will kick the face of their prey with very sharp claws on their paws, usually strong enough to cave the face in entirely. Their attack usually kills in about 20 to 30 seconds. They will only attack things they think they can defeat. It takes about 5 seconds for them to fully latch on and begin the attack, so that provides a small window of time to defend yourself.
Grave Talon
Attracted to spaces where death is common, such as graveyards or morgues, these spectral, but very rare, birds are some of the most dangerous creatures known. They are vicious attackers, often diving from on high with their spectral talons extended to eviscerate prey. But their true danger comes in their feeding. Not only do they feed on the flesh of corpses, but they feed on the essence of a person. They will often feed on the threads of one's soul, reeling their soul back from rest to consume the soul, and thus, their very existence, memory, history. Bury your dead, feed not the grave.
Frost wolf
The Frost Wolf is a normal wolf, though slightly taller than typical wolves. Their fur is covered in a layer of frost, as are their fangs. They hunt in packs like normal wolves and have many means of attacking. They have sharp claws and fangs but can also breathe frost that will completely freeze small animals and stun larger ones, including people, for a short time. This allows the pack to close in and rip their prey apart within seconds. They are also very stealthy animals. They can walk lightly on snow and leave little trace behind. They avoid fire, no matter its size, and other heat sources.
Dieroloss
These creatures resemble deer or elk. They are big, clumsy beasts that usually inhabit volcanoes or deserts. Their antlers are made of magma, and they have fire-resistant fur. If they feel threatened, they will charge at their prey and impale it on their antlers, killing it within seconds—if it hasn’t already died from the sheer impact of the charge. The Dieroloss is very easy to spot because of their antlers practically being a spotlight on their head. They don't turn very well either, so it is easy enough to avoid them that way.
Spikeareoq
These small creatures inhabit swamps or muddy riverbanks. They will usually bury themselves in the mud to hide. They have a medium-thickness shell with rows of spikes on top. They don't walk very fast but can scrunch themselves into a ball and roll at anything they deem a threat. Some species of the Spikeareoq are known to have venom in a few of the spikes on their shell. This can be treated if one of the venomous spikes hits you, but you must have the cure within 6 hours. If you don't, death is likely. They are mostly defensive and will bury themselves deep in the ground if they sense vibrations to stay hidden.
Glowfly
These insects are small and inhabit swamps. They live in large swarms of hundreds of glowflies. They aren't very dangerous, but if enough of them swarm you, the sheer amount of light swirling around you can make you dizzy and, in some cases, cause paralysis. The swarms are easily dispersed by gusts of wind, however, and are easily seen in the dark.
Ground Needle
These worms grow no more than 6 inches in length and spend all their time underground eating the roots of plants or any insects they come across. And though they might seem harmless at first glance, they can be very dangerous to encounter. If they sense any vibrations in the ground, they will angle themselves vertically just under the surface of the ground. They will position their stingers on their tails just below the surface. If anyone or anything steps over the spot where the stinger is, it will shoot up and stab them in the foot, injecting venom. The venom isn't fatal but will cause dizziness, numbness in the stung foot, and in some cases, swelling. Most boots, however, are strong enough to prevent the stinger from fully penetrating the prey's foot, which reduces the amount of venom injected. This is because the venom is coated along the length of the stinger itself.
Lebfrion
These creatures are rare, but when one is spotted, it's big news. These are, in essence, very, very large crabs. They walk on eight legs and are surprisingly fast, with some reaching speeds of 25 miles an hour. However, getting up to speed takes time and energy, which they don't have large reserves of. They attack with two large pincers, each the size of small boulders. These pincers are strong enough to crush almost anything. They also have a strong outer shell that defends them from a wide range of attacks. As mentioned earlier, they don't have large energy reserves. They are very aggressive and aim to start and end a fight quickly. If they cannot, they will slow down and try to retreat due to their vulnerable state. Still, the lebfrion is deadly in most cases.
yuntrosk
Not much is known about the Yuntrosk, not its habitat, what it feeds on, or where it even comes from. Most don't even know what it looks like. But the few that have claimed to see it say it looks like a shadow made up of different shapes: triangles, circles, squares. All of them are different and random, but anyone that's seen it reported hearing a strange hum that invoked pure fear, enough to stun them in their tracks. A few have reported the humming noise to be so loud that they feel their skulls vibrating and have experienced hearing loss for a time after the incident. They don't seem to be killable from normal physical attacks and will usually leave after a short time.
