The Karanmore Faire

The Karanmore family was once a powerful noble family in Rendgarde. When it was discovered the patriarch was engaged in necromantic magics, the family was exiled, excommunicated, and chased into the Stormshatter Mountains.

For years the family has wandered through the little towns and communities of the mountains valleys and foothills, performing tricks and feats of magic. But everywhere they went, death followed. The family would be driven from those places, driven deeper and deeper into the inhospitable peaks of the mountains. Until one day, they came upon Bonefrost.

Krenek, the patriarch of the family, struck a deal with the leaders there. His entire family was killed and raised again, and Krenek set about building something. Something that took great magics and great tolls on his mind, body, and soul. When the work was done, the Karanmore Faire was built into the slopes below Bonefrost. A tower rose above all of it. And within, Krenek had become something entirely different.

The Karanmore Faire, on the surface, seems to be a bright spot in the desolate reaches of the mountains. It's cold, but there's hot teas, plenty of games, and good food to be had. But the curse there is quite devious. The more you play, the less likely you are to leave. The more you examine the attractions, the darker, colder, and more sinister they become. Eventually, if you spend too much time there, your soul is bound to the place, and you can never leave. And you can never die, as your flesh withers and rots, and your body begins to decay.

The souls of the captured patrons are used in Krenek's dark experiments. He has mastered the art of fear, placing rooms full of fearful visions throughout his tower of harvested bone. The actors in these fearful shows are the spirits of those forever confined to the Faire below. His menagerie is ever growing.
