Seatower

The city of Seatower rests on Ryvalen's western reaches, on Klagrond's west coast. It stands as the kingdom's main western defense, mirroring Kuloran far to the east.

Seatower's defining feature are the massive stone towers that flank it on all sides. There are six of them, placed rectangularly around the city, acting as it's main points of defense. It has no walls, for if ever there is any form of attack, massive barriers of magical force will be activated by the powerful Gatehold Mages, a powerful group of mages who dedicate their lives to studying and harnessing the power of those stone monoliths. How exactly those towers were placed there is unclear.

Seatower is also home to the Seaspray Bastion, an outfit of the Skybound Cavaliers, and they make their home at Seatower's fortress, a heavily built and strongly defended castle just within the reaches of the western towers, which stand just at the edge of the sea.

On a day to day life level, though, Seatower is a popular tourist destination, mostly mages and those interested in ancient histories. Seatower is a center for knowledge, and it is home to well-stocked libraries. Several magic academies are interspersed throughout, with a general, all-purpose university, the Ryvalen Academy of Higher Learning, within as well. This institution is perhaps the most prestigious in all of the kingdom, rivaled only by the great academies of Kuloran.

Seatower can be a dreary city, though. It's placement to the north and west leaves it a cold and wet place in the winter, though the rains last year round. The summers are lovely, if humid. The architecture of the place is old and austere, built for practicality rather than beauty. Many of the finest minds spend much of their time here, but much of that is spent in the old libraries or academies, so the streets tend to be quieter than the other great cities.
