The Skybound Cavaliers

The Skybound Cavaliers are Ryvalen's most powerful military force. It consists of mounted griffon riders, powerful, highly trained soldiers who spend great amounts of time training and bonding with their griffon mounts.

The process of becoming Skybound is a long one. Most conscripts are taken from a young age, trained with the spear and blade and bow, or any other trade they wish to learn that could enhance their skill in battle. Some even learn magic. They are then taken to the Stormshatter Mountains to find and bond with a mount. Then, the bonded pair grow together over time, training at the griffon flight academy, Sunspire.

Not all become Skybound from a young age. There are times where a bonded rider fails or is killed. Older conscripts have been known to bond with adult griffons, though the strongest usually bond from a young age.

Factions

The Skybound Cavaliers are made up of several factions, based on where they are stationed. Some Skybound will be all of the factions in their service. The main, and largest of these, is the Spireguard Bastion, stationed at Kuloran. The second is at the Sunspire, known as the Dawnwing Bastion, and there is even a small outfit at Seatower, known as the Seaspray Bastion. All bastions serve their own regions, though, if needed, will assemble under the same banner.

Membership

Many noble sons and daughters have joined the Skybound Cavaliers, though class has no bearing on who can become Skybound. There is a grueling selection process, and those who succeed are then sent on to their training or bonding, depending on age. Races of all types are Skybound, though most of it's ranks are human. Some elves, orcs, and dwarves also serve, however.
