Kirandur Calendar
The Kirandur Calendar
The Kirandur calendar is really quite simple: Each week has seven days of twenty-four hours each. Each month is composed of twenty-eight days, and each year consists of thirteen months, or three hundred and sixty-four days.
Each month is named after a god or goddess, by who, nobody can remember.
Avenlok
The first month of the year, Avenlok is named for Lokarien. It is a cold month, yet it promises rebirth for the coming year. Just as the moon god is cold, so too does moonlight promise the transition between days.
Avencru
The second month of the year, this month is named for Cruxik. As the chill begins to fade, ever so slightly, the stone begins to emerge from beneath the snow. Thus, the name. The stone god takes pride in this, being the first to show himself.
Avenvya
The third month of the year, this month is named for the goddess Vyaka. The sky fills with the roar of the winds, and with them come the return of birds. The sky goddess takes great pleasure in this.
Avenast
The fourth month of the year, this month is named for the goddess Astarielle. The snows have gone, and now must come the rains. The gentle touch of the water goddess's blessing washes away the detritus of another winter, and with it comes a new spring.
Avenmel
The fifth month of the year, this month is named for the god Melinil. Spring is upon us. The birds and the beasts climb from their nests and burrows, and with this spring comes new beginnings. The nature god is pleased with this tribute.
Avenlhi
The sixth, and hottest, month of the year, this month is named for the goddess Lhireiya. The sun shines bright, and the sun goddess bathes all the world in her unfettered glory.
Avensor
The seventh month of the year, this month is named for the goddess Sorrelia. The sun is high above the plains, and the horses race, feeling the warm summer winds in their manes. The horse goddess finds the pickings the best during this time of the year.
Avenvas
The eighth month of the year, this month is named for the god Vasarion. Summer still carries on, and the sea god welcomes all to cool off in the depths of his domains. The smoothest sailing can be found at this time of year.
Avenelu
The ninth month of the year, this month is named for the goddess Eludora. Harvests have begun, and the garden goddess gives her blessings in droves to the farmers of Kirandur.
Aventre
The tenth month of the year, this month is named for the goddess Treloa. The month of spook, some call this, though to tell the truth, it's mostly a month of celebration, for the changing of summer into fall. The craft goddess revels in the many decorations and crafts people make at this time of year.
Avenxyr
The eleventh month of the year, this month is named for the god Xyranthien. As fall creeps ever closer to winter, the storm god's power thrashes Kirandur, as the bitter winds blow and bring with them snow.
Avenadi
The twelfth month of the year, this month is named for the god Adinale. Ahh, Avenadi. The month of the winter solstice, when stories are told, fires are lit, and while the world may be cold and frozen outside, inside, at the hearth, with your loved ones nearby, you share knowledge, you share wisdom, you share kindness. The god of knowledge and order revels in this time, for hot tea helps combat the chill.
Aventir
The final, and thirteenth, month of the year, this month is named for the god Tirangil. The cold world outside has become almost too much to bear, though there is a beauty in the falling snow and the white flakes that fall from above. The darkest month of the year many places on Kirandur, it also is a month of bad luck, or some say. The god of death has the most judgments to pass at this time of year.
